Each one was wrapped in moving blankets to protect it. We used rubber-grip lifting straps to make sure we had a steady secure hold on the stairs. The slabs were heavy and awkward. The straps made the descent safer and more controlled. After that we loaded the timber frame and the slate onto dollies. We hauled the pieces across town taking care not to bump or jostle them. At the new place we put together the table and used professional leveling tools to make sure the surface was perfectly flat. Before we left we handed the owner a cue to test it out. He took a shot and smiled. The table was smooth, level and ready to play on. That was the part—knowing the job was done right. Then we packed up. Left, satisfied.
